Classy

Classy.
What comes to mind when you hear the word, Classy?
Maybe Audrey Hepburn or another charming Hollywood actress? The gentleman who works at the suit shop on Main St?
Whatever you think of when you hear the word doesn’t really matter for us at Virginia Academy of Dance, moreso we want our dancers, faculty, and studio families to strive to be classy at all times and not just think it.
Which is why we have it as the fourth part of our Studio Code.
Classy by the definition of the word is: “Stylish and Sophisticated”
Stylish doesn’t just mean the clothes you wear, but is also defined as “neat, confident, and skillful.”
Sophisticated is “having, revealing, or proceeding from a great deal of worldly knowledge” or when describing a technique one uses (such as dance technique) “developed to a high degree of complexity”.
So, breaking it down even further, what we’re asking our dancers, families, and faculty by being classy is that we want them to be neat, confident, and skillful along with having a lot of knowledge about dance and working to develop complexity in their skill.
That is the most important side of classy that we focus on at VAD, but we also adhere to the physical appearance of classiness by expecting everyone to be clean and neat, with hair and uniform taken care of and worn correctly for the dance style they are taking.
When dancers, staff, or families enter and exit the building we expect them to be wearing clothes that aren’t obscene, revealing, or any other inappropriate attire.
We want our dancers to be respectful of themselves, and part of that goes to how they keep themselves and how they take care of themselves.
Our bodies are a gift and we want to use them to their utmost, we can’t achieve that if we aren’t taking care of our hygiene or appearance.
We love having classy dancers, faculty, and studio families! Everyone is very polite and kind! There is no bullying, lying, stealing, or any other repulsive behavior, only positivity and goodness with us all having a classy demeanor.
So, as you can see to be members of Virginia Academy of Dance you must be classy on the physical, mental, and emotional side.
We help people when they need it and don’t brush them to the side, and we learn to speak our feelings without tearing others down and by listening.
We hope you are enjoying our Dancer’s Code Series and that you’re looking forward to next week’s last addition: Fearless
Have a wonderful week!
